Saturday Class: I Got Nothin’

I made it to class this this morning, and the beginning of barre was reasonable, and the end was a fiery swath of pain. Basically, I didn’t have the resources for the fondu — which is to say, my glycogen stores were hosed, I was getting no air through my nose, my mouth was the Sahara, and my legs screamed NONONONONO basically the whole time. My Arabesque on the second side was laughable, and the penché basically didn’t happen.

Called it a day after have battement, which frankly felt like a piece of cake after the flaming hell of fondu, even though my brain refused to remember the combination correctly, and kept putting its elements in the same wrong order. So instead I tried to focus on GBing to my second instead of behind my shoulder when going à la seconde.

After that I went home. That was my whole day so far.

If I’m still utterly unable to breathe through my nose while exercising on Monday, I’ll check in with my doctor’s office. I mean,  it never works well for me, but this is ridiculous.

About asher

Me in a nutshell: Standard uptight ballet boy. Trapeze junkie. Half-baked choreographer. Budding researcher. Transit cyclist. Terrible homemaker. Getting along pretty well with bipolar disorder. Fabulous. Married to a very patient man. Bachelor of Science in Psychology (2015). Proto-foodie, but lazy about it. Cat owner ... or, should I say, cat own-ee? ... dog lover. Equestrian.

  1. Sinus infections can be annoying AF! Always hated those. And I read they can cause tendonitis and other such annoyances if they become chronic, so checking with the doc might be a good idea. Get well! 🙂

    • Thanks! And OMG, yes. This thing is making me crazy. There’s this wacko spiral of:

grumpy because sinus infection => can’t dance to fix grumpiness because sick => even grumpier, etc

I might try stepping down to an easier class on Monday — skip modern and do beginner ballet in the evening or something like that, since I’ll still be taking doxycycline. Doxycycline always makes me feel tired and wimpy and sore, so an easier class might let me make it to the dance-y bits 🙂

The tendinitis thing is interesting — I know I’ve taken meds for infections that could cause tendon issues, too … like spontaneous ruptures o_O’ (I’m one of those schmucks who are allergic to penicillin, amoxycillin, and their relatives, though, so I get the interesting meds :P). I’ll check in with my doc about that and see if it’s something I should address proactively!

      • Yeah, I know that grumpy feeling…
I read in several places that a source of infection in the body, say a chronic sinusitis or impacted wisdom teeth, can cause inflammation at the site of a minor sports injury and make it much slower to heal, though I’ve never had it happen to me, since I’ve had to adress both my sinuses and my wisdom teeth surgically before I started dancing. Of course, antibiotics aren’t exactly a walk in the park either, especially the heavy ones, but still better than infection, I guess. :/

      • Oh, interesting! I wonder if that’s why my soleus was being cranky for a bit there. I’ll have to pay attention to that in the future!
